LHarwood's blog

Its been a while...

Wow! I can't believe its been over a month since I last blogged!  I think that indicates in and of itself how crazy the last couple of weeks have been! Spring semester, obviously, has been very very busy!

Snow during "spring" semester?

So here we are in our fourth week of spring semester and as I am typing this there are a good couple of inches of snow on the ground. The date? March 5! I mean I like snow and all, but I am so ready for the warm weather that typically cataegorizes spring semseter in Delaware to get here! Needless to say, the couple of inches of snow we did get on Sunday night did cause the University to cancel classes on Monday and give me my first snow day as a student here so that's not too bad of a thing.

Winter Session Update

Hi again everyone!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Welcome back! So I've been back at UD for a week now and classes are in full swing. The University of Delaware operates on what we call a 4-1-4 schedule.  For those of you not familiar with this type of structure what it is is we have two taditonal 4 month semesters and 1 one month long "optional" winter session in the middle of the two traditional semesters.

January just got a little more exciting!

I know its been a while since I've posted, but the last couple of weeks have been CRAZY! We only have 3 days left of classes, so the last week or so I have had a lot of papers and projects to get done. However, today has kind of been a calm before the storm (finals) for me so I figured why not catch you all up! So I mentioned the semester is pretty much over with the exception of finals and as I'm sure you all can imagine from your own experiences with the end of your marking periods in high school, it gets pretty crazy with schoolwork.

The Season Comes to a Close

With the semester starting to wind down and Thanksgiving break just around the corner, it's becoming that dreaded time of year when I have to say good-bye to an activity I love. Being a member of an organization like the UDMB has given me countless oppurtunities I would otherwise never have had. The friendships I have made and the poeple I work with are some of the best in the world, and for that I am truly grateful. This football season was a truly unforgettable one.

Weekends at UD

So when I was thinking about what I was gonna write for this blog I decided that I wanted to talk about something other than school (because I will be doing enough of that starting tomorrow hehe). So I figured why not talk about what there is to do on the weekends when classes are over and everyone has free time to kill. There are always countless student events taking place all over campus open to all students to fill their evenings.

Joe Biden Coming to UD!

Hi again! This has been a very exciting week at UD! Not only did the Phillies win the World Series :) (just had to get that in) but tomorrow UD will be host to Delaware Senator and vice presidential candidate Joe Biden! A free rally will take place on the The Green starting at 9:15 followed by Biden's speech at 10:30. Joe Biden is an alumnus of the university and a proud supporter of the Blue Hens. He was even seen at a Blue Hens football game a couple of weeks ago. With only a week until the election, Biden's stop at UD is extra exciting as students are starting to get ready to vote.

Blue and Golden Saturday

Hi everybody! So today was our second Blue and Golden Saturday, an open house for juniors and seniors interested in exploring what the University of Delaware has to offer. For the students and families who come to visit, we start the day off with a complementary breakfast followed by a personalized information session about their major. Prospective students are then free to design their own sechdule for the afternoon.

Homecoming 2008

Hi everyone! So this past weekend was homecoming here at UD! Homecoming is one of the most crowded and fun events of the year, with thousands of alumni returning "home" to take part in the festivities. The morning begins early for many tailgaters who arrive as early as 6 am to get their sites set up. Because of the noon kickoff, the band began practicing promptly at 8 am. We did a quick run through of all our music before heading down to the stadium for our traditional parking lot parade and performace for President Harker and his guests.
